There is something mystical about the island of Lanzarote that is difficult to explain. It has a draw on me ever since I went on a Lanzarote retreat in 2009. Most people go to Lanzarote and stay at the three main resorts like Playa Blanca and perhaps never get this feeling. There are many rural retreats on the island when compared with the other Canary Islands because of this special feeling the island imparts and you can find the best eco lanzaroteretreats.com with the local style Yurt accommodation.
The retreat was held at Caleta de Famara in the North East of the island. It was organised by Nick Good of SuccessUltranow.com. I met some amazing people from the chilled out contentment of the surfers living in their VW cans like David Seri who is also a photographer of the immense natural beauty Lanza has to offer, see DavidSeri.com
Lanzarote retreats benefit from the all year round sun, so if you are wanting to do yoga outside then when you are doing your sun salutations you will be looking up directly to the sun. We went to the top of the volcano Pico Partido in Los Volcanes Nature Park and in the middle of the volcano is a spiral of stones. The intention to hold is to give up any troubles in your old life as you walk inwards towards the centre. At the centre experience a cleansing and meditate on this freedom as you follow the spiral out. See http://www.lanzarote-holidays-guide.com/ for a photo of the volcano.
The beach near Caleta de Famara is long and wide and perfect for contemplation. We spent a whole day there in silence. After we went up to a cliff edge over looking the town and watched the sun set over the cove for a few hours.
It was an unforgettable experience and one that is drawing me to go back to the island to live in the near future. I hope the retreat you go on will also have you falling in love with shear beauty and natural energy of the island. I can hear the ocean now as I write this. Enjoy your retreat, peace!
